A new contract for Kalvin Phillips would allow Leeds United to command a “huge fee” for his services in the future, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 26-year-old deserves to be offered renewed terms at Elland Road.

Speaking to the Daily Mail last week (23 December), Phillips confirmed he “wants a new contract” at the club and suggested he is “very happy” at Leeds United.

The England midfielder will have two years left to run on his current deal at the end of the season.

Campbell claimed he couldn’t believe Phillips hadn’t already been approached with an improved offer following his “amazing” achievements.

“Kalvin Phillips deserves that new contract at Leeds United,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“When you look at what he’s achieved at the club, the promotion, finishing in the top half – and then establishing himself with England – it’s amazing. You just wonder why it hasn’t happened already.

“He shouldn’t have to be coming out and saying he wants a new deal, they should have been banging on his door with one in the summer after the Euros.

“A new contract would allow Leeds, if anyone was interested, to ask for and probably get a huge fee for him. It’ll be interesting to see how it will pan out.”

Phillips started every game for England as Gareth Southgate’s side reached the final of the European Championships.

The midfielder is currently on the treatment table at Leeds United after suffering a hamstring injury.

Phillips made 29 league appearances last term as the Whites finished ninth on their return to the top flight.
