Alan Hutton has claimed Alfredo Morelos is “irreplaceable” at Rangers ahead of the January transfer window.

The former Gers defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Light Blues cannot afford to lose the 25-year-old and his goals during the winter window.

Speaking to GiveMeSport on Monday (27 December), Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge claimed Morelos is “not the ultimate must-stay anymore” when asked about the hitman’s future.

However, Hutton has suggested Rangers would find it nearly impossible to replace the striker’s goals.

He pointed to Kemar Roofe’s injury problems as a reason Morelos is so valuable to Rangers “at the moment”.

Asked if he thought Morelos is irreplaceable to Rangers, Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “At this moment in time? I think he is, for what he brings to the team at the moment.

“I mean obviously you’ve got Roofe but he struggles to stay fit. It’s hard for him because we know how good he can be.

“But at this moment in time, it is what it is, he has struggled for fitness. So you take him out of the equation and it’s like who else is going to step in there?

“I think at this moment, with what Alfredo has given and his number of goals, he is irreplaceable.

“It’s maybe somewhere that, in the future, Van Bronckhorst will look to strengthen depending on what happens in January.”

Morelos has scored 13 times in 29 appearances for Rangers so far this season.

He has netted six of those goals in his eight games under new manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
