January transfers that should happen including Arsenal U-turn & Man Utd swoop

It’s the calm before the storm as Premier League clubs make their final plans ahead of the transfer window reopening on January 1.

On the eve of the new year, Romelu Lukaku dropped a Chelsea bombshell, admitting he was unhappy at Stamford Bridge.

The Belgian only returned to the Blues in the summer, but has made it clear he is discontent with his current situation under Thomas Tuchel.

Elsewhere, Manchester United could be set for an intriguing first window under new boss Ralf Rangnick with the Red Devils linked with incomings and potential departures.

Julian Alvarez is a name that has been touted as an option for Rangnick, with Anthony Martial looking increasingly unlikely to still be at Old Trafford for the rest of the season.

Meanwhile, Kylian Mbappe has distanced himself from a January move and as ever, there will be updates regarding the futures of Mohamed Salah, Erling Haaland and Europe’s other hottest properties.

Lukaku drops Chelsea bombshell

Romelu Lukaku has declared he would like to return to Inter Milan in the future and he is "not happy" with the situation at Chelsea during an explosive interview with Sky Sport Italia.

The Belgian striker joined the Blues from Inter for a club-record £97.5million this summer and he has performed well when fit, but he is clearly discontent with his situation under Thomas Tuchel.

He said, per Fabrizio Romano: "Physically I am fine. But I'm not happy with the situation at Chelsea. Tuchel has chosen to play with another system - I won't give up, I'll be professional. I am not happy with the situation but I am professional - and I can't give up now."

Man Utd 'willing to meet' Alvarez clause

Manchester United are willing to meet Julian Alvarez's €20million (£16.8m) release clause to bring the River Plate forward to the Premier League, according to Diario Sport.

The Spanish outlet claims Alvarez, 21, is viewed as an ideal option to freshen up the Red Devils attack as Anthony Martial and Edinson Cavani near January exits.

The Argentina international has scored 18 goals in 21 games this season.
