The Seattle Seahawks were mathematically eliminated from any chance of making the NFC playoffs after their loss last Sunday, Dec. 26 to the Chicago Bears and with rumors of star quarterback Russell Wilson's departure for next season, that means the next two games could be the last for the Super Bowl XLVIII winner with the Pacific Northwest team.
He could leave Seattle in the offseason
In NFL Week 17, the Seahawks will host the Detroit Lions and, as such, it could mean Wilson's last home game at Lumen Field, as in Week 18, Seattle will visit the Arizona Cardinals to close out a difficult regular season.
Wilson, however, hopes that scenario doesn't play out.
I love this city (Seattle)Russell Wilson
"I know for me personally, I hope it's not my last game. But at the same time, I know it won't be my last game in the NFL," Wilson said. "I'm just focused on today and getting better today. That's my goal. I love this city and I love this moment. I love these guys and we gotta make sure we get better today. That's all that matters."
In the offseason, Wilson was reportedly open to being traded according to a report by Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports and that reality has not changed so the trade is still rumored to happen this offseason.
He has two years left on his contract
The quarterback has two years remaining on his contract with the Seahawks, however, apparently friction with the organization would prevent negotiating a contract extension and the team would look to collect draft picks to begin rebuilding the franchise that with a 5-10 record will have its first losing season since Wilson was selected in the third round of the 2012 Draft.
In his time in Seattle, Russell Wilson has been selected to eight Pro Bowls and has accumulated 36,585 yards with 285 touchdown passes to 86 interceptions.
